What Is Islam?

Editor note: This page is general educational content, not information specific to the center. Have the imam review it. Delete this note when done.

Islam is a monotheistic faith centered on the worship of One God, Allah. Muslims believe that Allah sent guidance to humanity through prophets, and that Muhammad (peace be upon him) was the final messenger. The Qur’an is the central text of Islam.

The five pillars

  • Shahadah: the declaration of faith.
  • Salah: the five daily prayers.
  • Zakat: giving to those in need.
  • Sawm: fasting during the month of Ramadan.
  • Hajj: pilgrimage to Makkah for those who are able.
